SEMINARS,
MASTER CLASSES
AND PRIVATE LESSONS

Seminars — one-time events or as a series — can be designed to meet the needs of parishes, deaneries/groups of parishes, or as diocese-wide events. The elements of liturgical awareness, effective ministry and vocal technique most needed by a group can be evaluated and addressed. We work out the place and the time with you to best meet your needs.

For Directors, Accompanists & Priests:
Cantor Care & Management

Master Classes can be held to evaluate and work with a smaller number of cantors. Such sessions have the goal of providing personal attention, focused coaching, practical advice and helpful tools that can help cantors be more effective in their ministry.

Private lessons are an extremely valuable resource for cantors. The performance skills necessary to become a capable cantor need to be developed and polished over time.

Liturgical Awareness:

  • goals of liturgy preparation
  • qualities of good liturgy
  • the liturgical year
  • the liturgical rhythm of the Mass
  • roles of music in liturgy
  • studying the psalms
  • etc.

Effective Ministry:

  • the role of the cantor
  • when to use a cantor
  • location of the cantor during worship
  • gesture
  • eye contact
  • non-distracting movement
  • microphone use
  • weddings/funerals/other special liturgies
  • teaching new music to the assembly
  • etc.

Vocal technique:

  • body awareness
  • posture
  • breathing
  • resonance
  • intonation
  • vocal health
  • etc.
